From the 1959 film "The Horse Soldiers," John Wayne costars as Union Cavalry Colonel John Marlowe who leads his brigade on a mission behind enemy lines to destroy a Confederate railroad and depot at Newton's Station, Mississippi. The story is loosely based on Col. Benjamin Grierson's raid in April, 1863 and was a vital part of General Grant’s campaign for the capture of Vicksburg.
