In 1/07 President Bush announced a change in strategy to help bring security to the people of Baghdad and Al Anbar Province. Committing more than 20,000 additional American troops to Iraq, this new approach became know as "The Surge." By mid-June, major counter-insurgency efforts were fully underway.
